Hexar's Personality
A self-description of the way I do life
Intelligence
I consider myself a very intelligent person, and so do many of my
friends. I've never taken a scored IQ test, but I did pass the IQ
test given to me when I tried to see if I could get into Mensa, which
probably means it's at least 130.
For most of my life, however, this intelligence has been limited to
"book smarts", meaning that I had no common sense and little grasp on the
real world. Since entering and subsequently graduating from college, I
have been working on this problem by learning as much as I can about some
of the more practical aspects of living life.
Emotions
Usually I don't get angry easily, unless someone is intentionally
trying to make me mad. And usually, when that happens, I lose it.
Because that's worse than inconsiderate--it's evil.
I'm easily saddened, especially by girl troubles. But for the most
part I have a positive outlook on life. Maybe it's just a matter of
disappointment.
I love to have fun. My favorite people to hang out with are also the
type of people that enjoy life the most. Why bother trying to be a
boring, non-laughing person when a little cheer is in order?
Humor
I have a somewhat odd sense of humor. I enjoy doing things that
are strange because they "would be funny to do". I've always enjoyed
making people laugh if I can; it's so great! Besides, laughing is good
for you. Sometimes, however, I like to be funny by being sarcastic, and
I've lost the ability to inflect my voice so that people know I'm
joking--so often they have to consider if what I'm saying completely
contradicts my actual beliefs, or if I'm wearing a sly grin on my face a
few moments later.
Likes / Dislikes
I love movies that are clever. Nothing is less interesting than a
movie that is predictable from the start. Take The Usual Suspects for
instance--that's the kind of twist I really look for in great movies. I
love movies that are intellectually challenging, or are so complex I have
to watch them a few times to understand.
I love music, especially in the range from alternative / pop /
industrial. Although I've also been known to enjoy some techno and R&B
from time to time. I hate country though--save me!
I like the smell of rain in the summer.
I like doing things new and exciting.
I like the thrill of snowboarding or bumper-sliding.
I like feeling important or wanted.
I like computers and programming them.
I love to sing, especially in the car, no matter who else is there.
I love figuring stuff out. I can tinker on my computer, for instance,
trying to solve some weird problem, for hours on end--until I've solved
the puzzle.
I like simple pleasures, like talking over coffee, or a pint of ice
cream, or reading a book when it's raining outside.
I love books--not novels, usually, but books that tell me something new
and interesting. Non-fiction books, like books on game programming, or
investing in the stock market, or enhancing your spiritual life, or
self-defense, or massage, or anything else that might expand my character
for only the cost of foregone TV watching time.
I generally don't like watching television, because I consider it
a waste of time with little actual benefit.
I don't like superficiality.
Beliefs
I believe that anything is possible given the right amount of time &
effort.
I believe in honesty over both humility and saving face.
I believe in helping others.
I believe in working hard, but also in a time for rest.
I believe in integrity; doing what you said you were gonna do. Let
nobody say that my word is not a bond.
I believe in a personal God who created the universe, and who sent his
son to Earth to remedy our disconnection with Him.
I believe that marriage is a sacred institution and should not be
broken for petty, self-centered reasons.
Talents
I am brilliant and love to solve puzzles.
I have a true passion for computers and for programming.
I have a good voice and a strong musical sense.
I'm physically very fit and have participated in many sports ranging
from gymnastics to weight-lifting.
I can juggle:
- Five balls
- Three torches
- Four clubs
- Seven clubs (passing with a partner)
- A number of other things.
I can unicycle (and taught myself how in one day).
I'm good at using Paint Shop Pro.
I know some very basic massage techniques.
I can swing dance in the style of Lindy Hop.
Ambitions
Instead of merely living for myself and maybe letting God in on some of
it, above all I aspire to do something positive for God's plan.
I someday hope to be a game-programmer for a small company.
I want to live in a community with other people that I really know and
connect with.
I'd like to own a few businesses later in life, and to invest patiently
and wisely in the stock market, to the point of financial independence.
I want to be able to give freely and happily of my time & money to
those who need it.
I want to raise a family of 2-3 kids in a beautiful place (most likely
in Colorado or California).
