Welcome to Hexar.Net
I designed this website in July 2001 in an attempt to create
the "killer" personal website that I'd always said I was going
to do. It was supposed to be personal yet professional, and
something I could be truly proud of. I didn't want to make yet
another webpage with midi music and terrible (not to mention
non-tiling) background images.
This website is about a subject I know best: Me. Some
people apparently think it's "weird" to have a website just
about yourself, but creating a website about something else
would probably be too much work.
This website (used to) run off of Apache 1.3 on a cute little Compaq
K6-2 533 Linux box sitting in my bedroom. The site uses PHP
extensively to generate the content presented here; the table
code for every page is included SSI-style. I took the Articles
section a bit further--every article is referenced through a
MySQL database which is accessed via PHP. Also, check out the
Photo Album; it's also database-driven, and does a lot of cool
stuff (like thumbnail generation) on the fly. The intense use
of technology on this site was difficult to create in the
beginning, but has only led to ease of maintenance
nowadays.
Enjoy.
