Ten Million

More people subscribe to the World of Warcraft than live in Wyoming, Vermont, North Dakota, Alaska, South Dakota, Delaware, Montana, Rhode Island, Hawaii, New Hampshire, and Maine. Combined.

Warcraft is now bigger than Serbia, Sweden, Austria, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Israel, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Ireland, and about 130 others.

The pricing is different in Asia than it is in Europe/US, but the 2.5 million US subscribers pay about $15/month to play. What would you do with $37.5 million per month?

Renfest

After living in Texas for three and a half years, I finally managed to make it to a Renaissance Festival with some of my church friends (and Alicia) this weekend. I think there were around ten of us all told. We left Austin early on Saturday morning for the festival grounds, heading east to Plantersville. We set up our circle of tents and headed into the festival grounds.

There were a lot of ways to part us fools of our money, even after the ticket price. We saw the Dead Bob Show and the Washing Well Wenches, who both made a show out of asking for tips at the end. There were games such as throwing tomatoes or dunking namecallers, throwing axes, and plenty of expensive food and drink items. Bryan won a very valuable "free kiss" voucher from the axe throwing event. Nice.

The day's events ended around dusk with a fireworks show in the arena, which was actually pretty awesome, and free. Bryan successfully "redeemed" his voucher, and we headed back to our tents.

We had a pretty fun night before heading for bed, consisting of some party games, hot dogs, burgers, and drinks. But we had to huddle under a "chair tent" because it was raining pretty badly.

Well, just like Mexico, it rained really badly overnight. Actually it was even worse, because we camped in a grassy area which became a marshland in the rain. Alicia and I had a tarp and several layers of blankets and such beneath us, so we managed to stay dry and happy, but everyone else was wet and miserable. I felt kinda sorry for them but I also didn't because we knew it was going to rain, and yet people still didn't prepare for it. That's just foolish. Regardless, I'm still going to check the weather next time I go camping (:
